  I've been studying with JW's for a few months..

  i've been studying with the jw's for a few months and i've attended a few meetings but things are feeling somewhat strange...i don't quite get the jist of things but i feel that i'm learning more of what the watchtower teachers and less of what the bible actually says.. i never open my bible.. i'm always reading the watchtower pamphlets.

  i really like the people i've met in the congregation and the guy thats been doing the studies with me has been an awesome friend.. .

  but i'm just having some issues.. i mean.. they translated their own bible to suit their own doctrines it seems.

  Why would a loving god permit eternal torment? it's illogical and hateful

  Welcome Michael. Use that same logic and ask yourself , Would a loving God only allow the JW to survive and kill everyone else on earth simply because they did not feel like listening to two stranges knocking at their door on a Sunday morning? Also ask what message do they bring to the door? Is there a message or just a magazine or book placement? If JW were really interested in reaching as many people as possible because they truely believe that they are the only ones on earth that have the "truth" would they not use modern technology and the media to reach many people. Going from door to door may have been the only means of getting the message across in bible times but it's not very effective now. Even the Avon ladies don't do this anymore! Would God really only use a hand full of Americans to govern His organization or should the governing body be a bit more ... shall we stay colourful, for lack of a better discription. Why is it that The JW only started in 1800s what happened between the time Jesus was on earth and the 1800s? If God really wanted to use only one organisation wouldn't He have made sure that they were known and organised a long time before Charles Russel came along.

  These are just a few questions that made me think!

  Why label it a cult?

  what purpose does it serve?

  it just seems to polarize people and ostracize those who aren't ready or willing to label it a cult.

  anyone can look up the dictionary definition of a cult (or experts' definitions).

  I'm also going to vote in our next election for the very first time ever!!!!! Now I finally feel all grown up.

  Update! Drew Sagan is no longer a Jehovah's Witness

  as promised here is all of the info regarding what has been going on.

  per the last jc with the elders i realized that all i had done was buy time.

  they felt that we should be df'ed right on the spot, but because i made a plea to wait for a letter coming back from the wts they decided to hold on taking such action.

  I have spoke once to my parents..

  in the last year.

  some of you may remember a little bit of what happened last year when my family and i went to visit my parents - big fiasco, cops were called and we were thrown out - so i just had no desire to have any interaction with my parental units.

  i don't call, they've called a few times to speak to the kids (they called it checking on them like i'm some deranged person).

  The reason I started this topic is two fold. Firstly it seems like many here have been feeling a bit blue lately and I thought this thread will cheer them up a bit. Secondly lurkers out there have to know that we are getting on with our lives and are happy about leaving the WBTS and are not living in the past with the "poor me I was a JW" syndrome. Please keep the positive posts coming.

  Fading With Children

  i have, for the most part successfully faded.

  no elders calling, my parents know i don't attend meetings, but have a don't ask/don't tell policy.

  they don't ask if i went to a meeting, i don't tell them i haven't.

  Hi Sweet Pea

  I have a funny story about this. We don't often see my parents as they live far from us. About two and a half years ago they came to visit us for a two week holiday. I did not have leave for the first week of their visit but my kids were already on school holyday and so would be spending time with their garndparents without our supervision. I had told them not to say anything to them about birthdays and church etc. My mother however asked my son if we go to meetings to which my daughter only 7 years old at the time answered "yes, we go to church all the time". When I got home from work my mom looked really P**sed Off!! My son called me into the bedroom and told me what happened. I decided to wait until my mom said something about it but she never did. The next day she was back to her cheerful self and to this day has never mentioned the incident.

  The only concern for me was that my son and daughter both felt like they had done something wrong. I had to explain to them that we have to live our lives the way we want and it has nothing to do with anyone else. I have stopped telling my kids what they can and cannot say to their JW relatives. So far both sets of parents know that we have faded and that we attened a Christian church and neither of them have spoken to the elders about it.

  I think both my hubby and my parents can see that this is what we have chosen for our family and if they want to have any contact with the children they had better tow the line. If they decided to shun us they must realise that it's their decision and not ours to cut contact.
